The SP-10R also features a ultra-low-noise switching power supply, which, compared to a power supply unit using a transformer, is better at suppressing unwanted humming sounds and vibrations. The power supply unit is separate from the main turntable, preventing unwelcome noise from being transmitted to the turntable unit, for a sharper and clearer sound.
The base of the turntable is a plinth developed by Zikra Audio. The plinth is in mirror polished stainless steel. It contains 11 layers of soft aluminium attached with two-component vibration damped glue. The plinth itself weighs 45 kilograms, which is equivalent to 100 pounds.
The record player is delivered with or without Technics' own 12 inch tonearm. It can also be supplied with the exclusive tonearm Ikeda IT-407. The tonearm base is in gunmetal and is compatible with 10-12" effective length tonearms.
